Kindergarten Registration

Beginning December 9, families with children born in 2021 can apply to attend kindergarten for the 2026–27 school year; the application deadline is Friday, January 23, 2026. Please encourage all families with children born in 2021 to participate in kindergarten admissions, including families with children currently attending pre-K, students with disabilities, English language learners, and students with accessibility needs. Also note the following: 

• All families who apply by the deadline will receive a kindergarten offer by March 31. As a reminder, families can now use the kindergarten application to apply to all kindergarten programs including kindergarten Gifted & Talented.  
• Families can apply to kindergarten in two ways: 
  • Online at MySchools.nyc; or 
  • Over the phone by calling 718-935-2009. 
• Myschools.nyc includes an online directory total that allows families to explore program choices, save programs of interest, and submit their application, all on the same site.

Gifted and Talented: Applications for Gifted and Talented (G&T) programs for children born in 2021 will open on December 9; offers will be released by March 31. As a reminder, families can now use the kindergarten application to apply to all kindergarten programs, including kindergarten G&T. Families can learn more at schools.nyc.gov/K and can indicate G&T interest directly within the kindergarten application on MySchools.nyc. 

NYCPS will release a training with detailed information on the nomination process, including the format and use of the nomination tool. The nomination tool will be open from January 16–30; schools and pre-K centers should complete their nominations during this period. 

As an additional support for school/program leaders and staff, the upcoming “5 Ready” Transition to Kindergarten virtual session will review key kindergarten and G&T admissions steps, timelines, and available supports. The session will take place from 12:00–1:00 p.m. on December 17. Interested participants may submit this form to receive reminders about the session.
